Due to their high coherence, lasers can be used to directly
observe the wave nature of light.
During the research period at Solitude, the IAT was extended for the first time by a green laser.
The first laser installation connected the IAT studio Nr. 43 in the east block of the Akademie with the top of the weather vane on the main building of the castle. The very thin, 95-metre green light sculpture lay motionless above the castle through the dark winter months. It changed its quality according to the weather – from light and clear on slightly foggy days, to fl ashing and sparkly during rain, to dense and pulsatingly glowing during snowfall.
In all of the laser works, the dimensional, graphical and sculptural quality of the laser is used to connect distant points easily and with high precision.
